A few items stand out in this compilation of personnel. The first item is the brevity of the vast majority of the entries. They simply state that the individual served on board the frigate - no dates or "position" stated or indicated in any way. Only for William Fitzgerald and Daniel Russell is additional information given. Even then, Fitzgerald is cited as having married a women whose name was "Sarah --------" with no additional information about either him or her maiden last name. There is additional information concerning Daniel Russell. He did serve aboard the frigate Bon Homme Richard under John Paul Jones and fought in the famous engagement with the HMS Serapis. The additional information includes his "position" on board the frigate Bon Homme Richard as that of a "steward" and master's mate". But, the entry concludes with the simple statement that "he also served aboard the frigate South Carolina". There is no mention as to what function he had on board the frigate South Carolina or what his "position" was on board the frigate. One can assume that he served in some capacity like what he served in on board the frigate Bon Homme Richard but, there is no surety concerning this assumption.
The second item that stands out is that, once again, the vast majority of these men have their "stub indents" recorded in the same book - A.A.1880A. There are a few who have their service on board the frigate South Carolina recorded elsewhere but, the vast majority of the men listed above have their service on board the frigate recorded in the stub indent book A.A1880A. Of the fifty-eight men listed above, forty-five of them are listed in this specific stub indent book. Since no further information is given on any of these men except Daniel Russell, it is the assumption of this blog writer that these men were all sailors on board the frigate South Carolina and most probably once their stub indents are located and inspected, the amounts paid to each of these men will be very small amounts.
